5/26/2023 0 Comments We were villains book![]() In conclusion, I feel that the letter clearly indicates that James is alive, although I cannot seem to work out the logistics. Not to mention how that passage is foreshadowed in earlier scenes. However, the letter seems like such a deliberate and clear message to Oliver, and I cannot imagine why James would have chosen that passage if he intended to die. Why would he just suddenly decide he needed to fake his own death? If it were not for the letter, I would assume James committed suicide due to his guilt. ![]() Oliver was only 4 years away from being released, and there was no threat of James going to prison for the murder or anything like that. On the other hand, it doesn’t make much sense for James to fake his death. It would have only tortured Oliver with false hope, and surely James would have understood the context of the letter and how Oliver would interpret that. ![]() I’m inclined to believe that James is still alive, as it doesn’t seem to fit with his character to leave that note for Oliver if he was intending to die. Just finished reading this and wanted to hear other’s opinions on the rather ambiguous ending. ![]()
